Juan Garcia

Meet Captain Juan Garcia

Islamorada Fishing Adventures with Capt. Juan

Captain Juan Garcia was born and raised in beautiful Puerto Rico, where the clear blue Caribbean was his playground. From the time he could walk, he had a fishing rod in hand and a love for the ocean that only grew stronger with age. Whether casting from the shore or exploring offshore reefs, Capt. Juan developed a deep understanding of marine life, local species, and the rhythms of the sea. His early experiences laid the foundation for the skilled, passionate, and knowledgeable captain he is today—one who truly knows what it means to live and fish by the tides.

After high school, Capt. Juan joined the U.S. Navy and was stationed in California aboard the USS Mt. Vernon. His time in service gave him an unmatched appreciation for discipline, seamanship, and safety—qualities that continue to guide his approach to charter fishing today. When his naval career ended, he set his sights on education, earning dual degrees in Hospitality Management and Travel and Tourism Management from Johnson & Wales University in Rhode Island. While pursuing his studies, he also guided part-time on the waters of Narragansett Bay, targeting Striped Bass and giant Bluefish, further refining his skills and sharing his passion with eager anglers.

It was in Rhode Island that Capt. Juan met his wife, Kelley, whose New England roots complemented his island upbringing perfectly. Together, they moved to Islamorada, Florida Keys, to work at the renowned Cheeca Lodge and Spa. There, surrounded by world-class fishing grounds, Capt. Juan realized that his heart belonged on the water full time—and Beats Land Charters was born. Known for his easygoing personality, professionalism, and genuine love for teaching others, Capt. Juan takes pride in helping families, beginners, and seasoned anglers experience the best of Islamorada’s fishing. Today, he’s also the Florida Sportsman Magazine weekend fishing forecaster for the Keys and has been featured in both the magazine and its TV show, further cementing his reputation as one of the area’s most trusted fishing experts.
